Thank you to everyone who donated to our food and water drive for Puerto Rico back in late September and early October. With your overwhelming support, we were able to deliver over 220 pallets of food and water to Governor Chris Sununu of New Hampshire who worked with Homeland Security to ensure the items got to where they were needed most in Puerto Rico.
Considering the devastation that hit the island, we knew the food and water drive was just a drop in the bucket! It is more than 2 months since Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico, yet only about 50% of the island has consistent power. Water supply has been restored to 90% of the island, but they are under a health order to boil the water – something that can not be done without power!
SMILE Mass is working with Mayor Angel Gonzalez to bring some immediate relief and hope to his city of Rio Grande. On December 21st, SMILE Mass will be providing a well deserved Christmas meal and presents to thousands of the residents still without permanent homes. In an effort to support these many families, we are asking for your help! A list has been created on Amazon with gift ideas as well as some of the food items that will be needed on December 21st. Please consider purchasing an item or two using this link http://a.co/6V8LdzU – this link has the correct shipping address going directly to Puerto Rico.
If you prefer to make a monetary donation, we are currently seeking donations in increments of $10. A $10 donation can feed a family of 5 at the Christmas meal on December 21st. Please consider sponsoring a family or two, you can do so at https://www.classy.org/give/159598/#!/donation/checkout and choose “Rebuilding Puerto Rico” to direct your donation.
Thank you for your support for the people of Puerto Rico!
