By request of the fire department and due to the success of this program last year, SMILE Mass is once again sponsoring the Adopt-A-Hydrant Program. The town of Sudbury has over 950 hydrants of which about 95% have marker flags indicating their location. SMILE Mass is challenging the kids in town (with adult supervision) to adopt a fire hydrant in town and keep it clear throughout any snow storms.

It is simple to participate:

  • Fill out our online form to adopt a hydrant near you! Once the form is received, a certificate will be on its way for you to proudly display.
  • Please make sure to stay safe when shoveling out hydrants, especially on busy streets.
  • Commit to shovel out that hydrant for the rest of the winter
  • We would love to see your kids in action! Send before and after pictures to to be used on our Facebook page, website, and local newspapers

Please direct all questions/concerns to SMILE Mass at 617-967-7755 or Please do not call the fire station with questions about this program.

SMILE Mass is proud to announce that The Nassa Family has once again decided to sponsor the SMILE Mass Adopt-a-hydrant program with a $10 donation (up to $1000) for each hydrant adopted. By helping your town, you are also helping SMILE Mass!

At the end of winter, SMILE Mass will again host a pizza party for everyone that participated. Remember, in case of fire, a shoveled out hydrant could help save a life!

Special Thanks go to all our participants from the epic winter of 2015!

And appreciation goes to those who volunteered in 2016!
